The Tug boats performed a water spray show...just before the ship came in .We waited at the waters edge in a tent that the Navy had set up for the families. It was enclosed and had big heaters set up in there. They served coffee, hot chocolate and doughnuts while we were waiting. It was a FREEZING morning!
As the ship rounded the bend...you could see the sailors standing at attention all along the ship's edge. It was AWESOME...everybody on shore started yelling and cheering... waving their flags -and pom-poms.....Can you imagine???? Not seeing your husband/father/brother/son for 6 or 7 months??? Some of these guys were seeing their babies for the very first time!! There were parents and grandparents, wives and children all there to welcome the sailors home...
